What is the best wheeled travel rucksack?
I am going traveling for a year and need a good wheeled rucksack. I am thinking of 55L or 65L. I have a back problem so need something with wheels. I would prefer one without a day pack.
Reading your question I think you need something different, not a wheeled backpack, and not luggage that is 55L or bigger.
Unless you expect to be able to carry your luggage for an hour or longer, do not bother to buy a rolling backpack.
The bigger the pack, the less likely that you will be using it in backpack mode.
For a big one, I think a rolling suitcase is way better than one which can be converted.
And the other point is the size.
If you go to one place and stay there you might be able to travel with 55L or even 65L.
But if you travel from one place to an other, you will not want that much.
For traveling around, most people take what they use in a week and do laundry when it is dirty. When you get tired of using the same clothes over and over, you buy something new and throw something else out.
You can pack clothing for a week in an 'in cabin' rolling case.
If I were you I would buy a cheapish one of those and use that. If you find that you want some more clothes or need more space for souvenirs or whatever, you can buy a bigger size case and leave the old one behind.
Buying clothes where you are might cost more, but you will save a fortune in not needing expensive storage, and you will be happy while traveling, as you can really move around.
I have gone down to daypack size for travel for weeks within Europe, and now I do not need to store my luggage for going into town.
But, whatever kind of luggage you decide to buy, go to a shop where they have several different ones and try it out, compare the different kinds and find the one that is best fitted to your body and your limitations. Having a back problem may restrict you also in the ways you can bend and pull.
