How do I adjust the American power voltage to an European appliance?
I have several Christmas lights that I bought from Europe, but they are made for the European voltage (230V), which is higher than in the US (120V). They therefore produce very little light because there is not enough power to run them. Is there a way to get my European Christmas lights work as if they were plugged in a European wall?
There is a reason that the code specifies that a regular three prong outlet can only be wired for 120 Volts AC fused at 15 Amps. If you wire 240 across the plug even at the same current your are doubling the power that will be used. If someone inadvertently plugs in an appliance that runs off 110 volts, you will at best destroy it and at worst burn it up.
Drop by a Circuit city or other electronics shop and ask they what they have as a transformer.
