Stornoway, or as the majority of islanders call it, Steornabhagh (Gaelic), on Lewis in the Hebrides Isles of Scotland, is the principal town of the area and the administration centre. To the common tourist to the Hebrides Isles the town can look faintly unappealing however the town has some really pretty areas including, possibly the best, the highly interesting Lews Castle Grounds. For a few years now the Local Council have invested considerable funds in beautifying of Stornoway in various ways such as by installing flower gardens and fountains and even large art installations such as the herring girl oby the harbour. Further to the fact that Stornoway possess a small selection of positive aspects with regards to interesting places that are indeed very attractive there are also a respectably large number of highly respected interesting places to visit that are not too far from the town itself, such as the popular, and incredibly magnificent, standing stones at Calanais.
The Isle of Lewis has much to offer the tourist not least the terrific sandy beaches, to be found south westerly of Stornoway, or the iron age Dùn Chàrlabhaigh Broch, found just down the road from the previously mentioned standing stones at Calanais. With so many worthwhile places nearby Steornabhagh can be the most suitable to use as a base for your holiday in the Hebrides. So the only task ahead is settling upon which Lewis hotels to book your reservation with.
The Caberfeidh Hotel is Stornoway’s most luxurious hotel. To be found on the periphery of Steornabhagh, overlooking the the heavily wooded grounds of Lews Castle ( which really must be visited), this is the hotel to stay in if you would prefer peace and quiet during your stay on the Isle of Lewis.
The Royal Hotel is Stornoway’s most ancient hotel and is sitting right in the town centre, (well, a minute or two’s walk from it), and overlooking the harbour with the grounds of Lews Castle in the distance. This is the Stornoway hotel to make your reservation with if you would prefer to have other amenities close by during your stay on the Isle of Lewis.
The Caladh Inn is Stornoway’s biggest hotel offering the most number of rooms. To be found on the periphery of Steornabhagh, but on the road out to the airport, this hotel is another hotel that is a few minutes away from Stornoway town centre and all of the facilities available there.
Whether you choose to stay in the Royal Hotel or one of the other Hebridean hotels you can be certain that your Hebrides Isles visit will be one to remember.
