These companies have a set schedule that will enable you to experience Africa to the fullest.

This is considered by many, as one of best ways to explore Africa since it presents a unique opportunity to get as close as possible to nature and experience it first hand.

Mobile safari adventure is experienced in a 4 x 4 vehicle that is capable of enduring the roughest of terrains in Africa. The driver of your vehicle is an experienced guide, who is aware of all the interesting places to visit. This presents a complete experience of Africa that is possible only due to these experienced and professional guides.

Canoeing is an activity that you have to experience in order to complete your African safari vacation. Enjoying the beautiful wilderness of Africa while witnessing the sun going down lake is an unforgettable experience. In case of overnight canoeing, base camps are set in small islands and river banks, providing an opportunity to explore these places as well.

Colourful kites, smart parades, delectable barbecues, children waving flags and fireworks bursting in air. The long Independence Day weekend is tailor-made for a quintessential all-Indian summer getaway, as destinations around the country woo families with events that celebrate all that’s kesariya, white, and green. The options for fun are as varied as the colours in those fireworks: head to a city for big parades and a splash of culture, sprawl on a blanket under the starry sky, or experience a little bit of both. Here’s a sampling of some top packages for families this Independence Day weekend to some of the most-sought after destinations in the picturesque state of Uttarakhand.

The Fort Unchagaon

The Fort Unchagaon stands majestically in village Unchagaon. Just about an hour’s drive from the bustling town of Bulandshahar in UP, it is a mere 110 kms from New Delhi. Unchagaon is very close to river Ganges. The particular stretch is very famous for Dolphins. The present Raja Surendra Pal Singh inherited this early 19th century fort at the age of ten. The young heir took personal interest in the maintenance and preservation of this ancestral residence. This palace was renovated under his guidance and thus is evident the influence of early 20th century blend of Indian and colonial architecture. Being the private domicile of a prince, the décor is authentically aristocratic. As the years rolled by, all modern amenities were added to the old palace making it much loved weekend getaway for many close friends and relatives of the family. Under the management of Leisure Hotels, the fort-turned-resort offers double rooms and suites along with numerous activities & recreational games.

The imposing white façade of the fort is surrounded by well-manicured, lush verdant lawns. The décor with its understated elegance is a reflection of the time, when style remained a way of life. Passing through the corridors, one is struck by muted opulence of its interior decors, another aristocratic feature of the palace. A set of royalty, this architectural heritage is a fine example of an early 20th century blend of Indian and colonial influences and offers you a chance to live the old ‘Zamindari’ way of life.

One may bask in the solitude in the warm sunshine, sit beneath the orchard trees in the farm, walk along the river, enjoy horse riding on Peshawari breed horses and bullock cart rides, walk through village haat and play billiards, squash, croquet, badminton to name just a few.

The Haveli Hari Ganga, Haridwar

Situated on the banks of river Ganga, Haridwar is a city that signifies an arresting blend of Indian culture and spiritual beliefs. To capture the true essence of the city’s spiritualism and simplicity, exuberance and enthusiasm a visit to The Haveli Hari Ganga, Haridwar is a must.

Designated as a heritage property by the Department of Tourism, Government of India, The Haveli Hari Ganga is a beautiful heritage resort situated on the banks of the Holy Ganga, a mere 500 meters walk through the bazaar at the sacred ‘Har ki Pauri’ in Haridwar.

The interiors of the haveli are interestingly reminiscent of ancient Indian architecture where there are balanced tones of poise & comfort. Twenty luxurious air-conditioned rooms and suites have been designed over-looking the Ganga ghat, which open into airy courtyards and balconies. It enhances the feeling of peace and tranquility that is so much a part of surroundings. The hotel also offers clean private bathing ghats, which is a first for a hotel in Haridwar.

While the soul gets nurtured by the flowing Ganga, the body gets rejuvenated at hotel’s spa that offers a complete revival of the psychic energies and relaxes by actively prescribing yoga and meditation techniques.

The gracious hospitality extends itself into the cuisine offered at the homely restaurant that serves a great variety of excellent continental and Indian cuisines. The emphasis is on freshness of produce and the choicest of ingredients laced with the flavors of India, Southeast Asia, Europe and beyond.

It wasn’t that long ago that the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh was most well known for being a military base for the Egyptian Navy. For over 25 years the city was very much isolated from the rest of Egypt and its only significance was its strategic military position. However, in the mid 1980s a lot of money was invested in developing the city and changing it from its commercial shipping and military roots into the family friendly tourist destination that we know today.

The city is located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula and has grown to become one of Egypt’s most popular tourist destinations. Egypt has always been known for its culture and incredible historical monuments and buildings, but Sharm el-Sheikh offers something a bit more relaxed than the busy streets of Cairo and Giza’s famous Pyramids. There are a mix of small boutique hotels and sprawling luxury five star complexes, long sandy beaches and some incredible spots for scuba diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea.

Luckily, the fast development of Sharm el-Sheikh has not meant that the surrounding natural beauty has been destroyed. There are strict environmental laws in place so that developers can’t build over a certain height, which keeps the beautiful backdrop of alluvial plains, valleys, mountains and dunes.

As well as a beautiful, natural environment on top of the land, the Red Sea offers something equally special under its waters. Sharm el-Sheikh is well known for its world class diving with an abundance of coral and marine life as well as some of the clearest waters in the world.

There are also some shipwrecks to explore for the more advanced divers, but don’t worry if you can’t scuba dive, the clear waters are still great for snorkelling. If you fancy learning to scuba dive during your holiday, Sharm el-Sheikh is certainly setup to accommodate you with a number of experienced dive companies based in and around the city.

Once you have surfaced there are many activities to keep you entertained and well fed, including horse and camel rides, desert safaris, bars, restaurants and traditional souqs to help you hone your bartering skills. If you don’t fancy visiting the nightclubs and bars around the city you can pick up a souvenir or two in the many shops that are open late. If you are feeling adventurous and still need to scratch your diving itch, there are a number of diving companies that offer night diving trips so you can see a different kind of nightlife.

Sharm el Sheikh holidays suit many different types of holidaymakers so it is easy to see why this pretty coastal city has grown from a few thousand visitors in the 1980s to one of Egypt’s most popular tourist destinations.

With the credit crunch hitting foreign travel around the world there are going to be a lot of cities and towns that struggle, but Sharm el Sheikh has all the tools to survive.

Diamond Head is a name given to the volcanic tuff cone, now dormant since ages on the Hawaiian Islands in Oahu. It is located at the southeast end of the Waikiki and overlooks the Pacific. It was named Laeahi by the Hawaiians, but later in the early 19th century, British sailors found bright white crystals and thought that they were diamonds and named this volcanic tuff as Diamond Head. But, they later on realised that they were silly stones with no worth at all. The ancient name given by the residents of Hawaii is, Laeahi, means, Tuna’s brow.

The Diamond Head has been extinct since more than 150,000 years. The volcano’s crater is 990 metres in diameter and is 231 meter high summit from the foothill. United States in 1898 had the major responsibility to protect pearl harbour. In this line, Fort Ruger a major Defence establishment occupied the crater of Diamond Head. Loads of canons were located in the premises of the crater so as to protect from the enemies invading. Through the crater walls a 176 metre deep tunnel was dug out, whose basic aim was to provide easy access to the Fort Ruger.

Diamond Head is a part of the State Monuments of the United States of America. A part of the Diamond Head is still utilized by the government of the United States as a platform to some antennas. This part remains closed for public.

The craters closeness to the main city hotels and panoramic view from the crater has made it one of the most important tourist locations of the Hawaii. Almost all the tour packages for the Oahu islands comprise of a visit to the Diamond Head crater.

The journey to the Diamond Head Crater is a small one from Waikiki centre and it can be a drive or a bus ride to the destination.

The total summit from the foothill of the Diamond Head to the top can be divided into 3 parts. The first part is a 99 step trail and the other being 76 steps, taking it to a total of 175 steps. The other part is a 69 meter trail through a tunnel which is unlit.

A hike of 0.75 miles leads us to the edge of the Diamond Head Crater’s rim. It is just a moderate climb and takes just over an hour to reach the top and half its time to get back down. A 0.6 miles of the trail inside the crater is adventurous, with one side having mountain and the other having a railing. A small tunnel has to be passed as well which leads to final spiral staircases to the observation platform.

Standing on top of the crater, one gets a view of the entire leeward side of the Oahu Island. The feel of the trade winds and sound of the waves crashing the slopes far below are indeed truly amazing. The whole of Waikiki’s view is spectacular from the top and extends to Koki Head. This is open from 6am to 6pm. There are no facilities available for the whole hike. Drinking Water, Sunscreen, a Torch light and a Camera are indeed essential.

Have you heard the phrase ‘Big Five Hunt’ or ‘Big Five Game’? Hunters of the past era were using this phrase to describe the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot. Since then, Big Five Hunt has been quite popular among hunters of all calibers worldwide. These five ferocious animals comprise the lion, the leopard, the African elephant, the Cape buffalo and the rhinoceros. Though they are found in many African nations like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Botswana, South Africa has done exceptionally well in popularizing them through safari style holidays and Big Five Trophy hunting.

It’ll be a nice idea to give a brief description about all the big five animals for the sake of wannabe hunters.

The Lion is a large carnivorous catlike animal of Africa having a short yellowish-brown coat, a tufted tail and a heavy mane around the neck and shoulders, especially found in the male.

The leopard is also a large carnivorous feline mammal with unpredictable behavior and nocturnal feeding habits that make it difficult to hunt. Big Five Hunt including a leopard may take several weeks of baiting. It has either tawny fur with black dark rosette-like markings or black fur.

The African elephant is the largest herbivore mammal on land and weighs between 13,000 to 14,000 pounds. It has a long, flexible, grasping trunk, fan-shaped ears and curved tusks of ivory.

The Cape buffalo is a big horned bovine and the most aggressive of the Big Five Hunts. Many hunter deaths are caused by it as it stands its grounds to fight till the end when caught in adverse situations.

The rhinoceros in black or white is a large herbivore with thick skin and one or two straight horns on the nose. Though it is quite heavy in weight, it can run at a speed of 24 miles per hour.

Let’s get back to Big Five Hunt in South Africa. It is always safer to hunt in the Rainbow Nation in comparison to other African nations, thanks to highly experienced professional hunters who guide you in the Big Five or in Plains Game hunting untiringly. Highly regulated professional hunting industry and a great variety of animals are the other two factors that contribute immensely in making South Africa the most sought-after destination for Big Five Hunt.

If you’re looking for a captivating South African safari experience, there is no better place than Seringa Ranch which is a perfect destination for Big Five Hunt, relaxation and comfort, or a stop-over while touring in South Africa.
The year is 1986. The Space Shuttle Challenger explodes 30 seconds after lift off. Chernobyl’s nuclear reactor blows up in the U.S.S.R creating the world’s worst nuclear accident. Civil strife is taking place across the globe. And I just finished reading “The Shocking Slaughter of Africa’s Wildlife” in the UNESCO Courier (A publication of The United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization). Destruction of the animals’ natural habitats is described in tragic detail. “The problem is balancing human needs with animal needs.” The animals are losing.

We’ll take the girls before it’s gone, I decided. A few weeks later the five of us were on the plane to South Africa. (The five: my husband, our daughter on summer break from college, our daughter on summer break from high school, my sister, and I.) South Africa was chosen because the animal habitats were still largely protected by the large game reserves and Kruger National Park. Once we arrived in Johannesburg, I was anxious to depart the plane. This was my second trip to a continent that I loved. As soon as I inhaled my first breath off the plane, I knew I was in this special place called Africa. Nowhere on Earth smells the same. When I breathed in the aroma of human, animal, and life itself, it reaffirmed my belief that this is where it all began.

We rented a van to drive to the Mala Mala Kirkmans Kamp Reserve in the Eastern Transvaal of South Africa. Mala Mala shares a common border of 26 miles with Kruger National Park making the reserve the ideal place to view rhino, lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, cheetah, and buffalo. Awakening the next morning in our bungalows complete with thatch roofs, we began our photographic safari conducted in an open-4 wheel drive Land Rover. From a temporary standoff with a herd of elephants to a dusk observation of a pride of lions, our safari was beyond expectations. Even the meals taken in the open top, side reed enclosed boma were suburb, especially the malva pudding which James Michener mentioned so often in “The Covenant.” Before we leave, I reminded myself, ask for the recipe.

As it happened, it wasn’t until we arrived home that I realized I had forgotten to ask. I wrote to our guide to please send the recipe. Several weeks passed with no answer. “The Covenant” came to mind. Surely, James Michener wouldn’t leave South Africa without the recipe so I wrote him.

“I regret that I do not have the recipe for malva pudding,” he answered. “I do hope you find it.”

It’s always the darkest just before the dawn. The next day a letter arrived from our guide. The year 1986 looked a little brighter. I shared the recipe with James Michener.

Kirkmans Kamp Malva Pudding

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tablespoon jam (choose your favorite)

1 cup flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon melted butter

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 cup milk

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat the egg and sugar together. Beat in jam. Add melted butter, lemon juice, and milk. Beat. Shift dry ingredients together. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients. Beat 2 minutes. Pour into baking dish. Cover and bake 1 hour. Remove from oven and pour syrup below over pudding as soon as the pudding is removed from oven.

Syrup

1 cup cream

½ cup butter

1 cup sugar

½ cup water

Mix in saucepan. Bring to boil. Boil 3 minutes.

Books About Rose Gardening are Essential Reading for Matching Different Types of Roses with Your Garden.

Regardless of whether you are new to gardening with roses, or if you have been growing roses for years and are an “old hand” at it – you will find that there will be a rose gardening book to match your experience. Such books can help you choose roses to suit the different aspects of your particular garden, or give you ideas on how to care for them effectively. Some people have dedicated their entire lives purely to roses, the information found in these books will have your rose garden producing an abundance of blooms for year upon year.

For those new to rose growing, rose books will inform you, most importantly, on preparing your garden soil before planting roses. This can make a fundamental difference on how your roses develop, from the start. Like all plants they have optimal requirements. If you are lazy, or indifferent in your attitude towards gardening, forget about planting roses, roses require maintenance on an ongoing basis, if your plants are to perform at their peak. Otherwise they quickly become unsightly, unhealthy, harbor pests and disease, and will flower poorly. Left to their own devices, roses are pretty hardy beasts, but you have planted them for their flowering capabilities, and if you want lots of flowers, you must maintain them properly.

As a more experienced gardener of roses, gardening books about roses will still afford you plenty of information. Development of new breeds of roses is constant, and avid rose growers cannot really help themselves, about wanting to know the new varieties available. Rose growing and breeding development is so big, that it is indeed it’s own industry. In addition, the maintenance and care of roses is a constantly evolving field with new techniques, different pruning styles, and ideas developed and tested all the time. Sometimes a book can contain a single new piece of information you’ve never heard before, but that may make a big difference to the success of your rose gardening.

Even experts or, “old hands” at rose gardening, will continue to find useful information in rose books. There are always new breeding techniques popping up, different climate, environmental and soil discoveries being made. Not forgetting the advances is tool technology. Learning from other experts and scientists is always going to expand your own knowledge. All of this information can be found in books about rose gardening.

Have you ever dreamt of awaking to the gentle sound of waves washing up on a beautiful white sand beach and the lovely face of your companion on the pillow next to yours? Well, the time to make that dream come through may be right now. Due to many people tightening their belts and sticking close to home because of the economy, airlines and resorts have slashed prices. Now you can reward yourself for exercising financial restraint during the previous period of mad excess and financial speculation.

You can look forward to shorter lines at the airport, affordable resorts during peak season, and no crowds on the beaches. Even well beaten paths like the Dominican Republic have cut vacation package prices by as much as 40% in some cases. A year ago such bargains would have been unthinkable. Many of the resorts in the Dominican Republic have very beautiful and hospitable staff to cater to your every need.

Enjoy a sensual massage with fragrant coconut oil before cavorting on the beach with your companion. After working up an appetite allow yourself to be hand fed broiled Caribbean lobster with sides of steamed breadfruit and Spanish rice. In no time you’ll be feeling like royalty spoiled by a life of decadent pleasures. Of course, you will be enjoying this without paying a king’s ransom which in itself is a guilty pleasure.

Those traveling alone will find that company is the least of their worries in the Dominican Republic. This destination is well known for the friendliness of its people and finding companionship at one of the many resorts catering to single travelers is effortless. So there is no reason to sit at home eating microwave dinners and conversing with your cat. Book a trip now. Years from now you can tell everyone about your wild vacation while others share their boring stories about pinching pennies and eating canned beans during the recession.

Egypt is consistently the top destination for world travel each and every year – and not surprisingly so. The country uniquely bridges the African and Asian continents across the Suez Canal by possession of the Sinai Peninsula. This key positioning has guaranteed Egypt a major role in the strategic and historic relationships between the east, west, north and south of Africa, Europe, Asia and the more direct Middle East beginning more than 5000 years ago when the first Kingdom of Egypt was unified. In addition to a most remarkable past, Egypt offers the eager traveler thriving international cities, lavish Red Sea resorts, fabled oases and literally hundreds of miles of ancient pharaoh monuments along the Nile River Valley.

Water, Torch and Tomb
When Muslim Arabs introduced Egyptians to Islam in the 7th century, much of the already weary monuments of the native dynasties became even less central to national heritage. Luckily, a renewed interest in archeological preservation over the past few centuries has kept these ancient wonders intact for the world to continue to enjoy. The ideal place to begin is Cairo, where the Egyptian Museum boasts hundreds of thousands of artifacts and will give you an opportunity to catch up your knowledge of ancient Egyptian history from the 4th grade. Nearby are the breathtaking Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, cut from a single slab of stone over 4,000 years ago, which can be viewed more peacefully beyond the crowds from horseback. South of Cairo, Upper Egypt offers a string of exciting temple towns between legendary Luxor and Aswan, including the Valley of the Kings. Although King Tutankhamen’s Tomb rests here, it is not nearly as impressive as the surrounding royal tombs, particularly the general-kings of the Ramesses Dynasties.

A Little Ocean with your Sand?
Aside from the Nile River Valley, Egypt is largely made up of the Saharan desert to the south and west; however, Egypt also happens to be a first class resort destination with nearly all (500 miles) of its eastern edge bordered by the tranquil azure waters of the Red Sea Coast. Visit the lively town of Harghada where traditional Egyptian life intermingles with international resort luxury. This area is extremely popular for scuba diving and snorkeling with its numerous underwater shipwrecks, sea caves and exotic fish. There are a multitude of islands to which you can escape by ferry or paddle boat and many small fishing towns for a little peace, quiet and local flavor added to your vacation.

The Mediterranean coastline also provides a nice break from the rolling sand dunes. Alexandria is Egypt’s busting port city with more Greek and French flare than the rest of the country. The city’s history is extremely eclectic, making a stroll through the streets feel like a wander across cultures and time periods. Alex the Great staged his resistance against the Romans from Alexandria, bringing a large population of Greeks with him, and for a short period Napoleon had managed to gain control of the ancient city.

Remember that Egypt is both ancient and modern. Travel to Egypt is not only about the archeological wonders and bone-chilling tales but also about the experience of a nation that is geopolitically and economically central to its larger surrounding region, a nation that is just as crucial to the identity of North Africa as it is to the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Egypt is justifiably as monumental today as the Giza Pyramids that symbolize the nation’s heritage.

So you have always heard about HK, but never visited it, or are some what gloomy as to what you can do in Chinese town. What is the food going to be like, the people, the culture, the ‘hong kong temperature’ and most important of all what the heck will you do there? Well, these instincts are normal, but not true. You see, I have always just heard about HK and its progress in their infrastructure and design, but never had I imagined it to be my favorite town in the world. I’m not Chinese, neither did I have any Chinese buddies convincing me to go. I always knew that I wanted to go to China to experience their culture, food and to especially find out what makes them so unique and different in the world. So, I booked a flight to HK and next the thing I knew, I was in HK in the scorching hot summer with temperatures skimming over 32 degree and 95% humidity. Words unfortunately have boundaries ; photos can only give you a sense of how a town is, but when you actually live in town of HK the experience is bind blowing. You have got to be there experience the harbor View towards HK Island, you have to be there to experience the climb to’the peak’ to see the entire view of the stunning town of HK, you have got to sit in the ferry to smell the sweet air and most vital of all you have to be there to experience the hong kong temperatures.
Now before I left to Hong Kong, just like any travel, some research and planning desires to be done about the city. For instance, what type of attractions it has to offer, ways to say a few phrases in Cantonese so you can get round the town and most vital of all, the Do’s and the Don’t’s. After endless looking, I finally discovered a perfect internet site by a student who went to varsity of HK to study for one month from University of Toronto. His website has some incredible pictures of the way of living in HK, all the skylines and all the cool places he went to, plus his personal blog with his experience and recommendation. I must say, the way I saw HK and the experience the scorching hot HK temperatures was exactly like it was displayed in his photos. Folk just relaxing on the side of the roads, tons of construction workers just working around the clock and variety of food offered by different street sellers. If your interested in visiting HK, then visiting his site is essential and even if your not particularly interested in HK, then just checking out the town is still a thrill!
Hong Kong Photos:

I’ve been working at PwC for almost all my life. Highly recommended!

When there are the places in the entire world where the people can get the best clothes at much cheaper prices when compared to the prices in rest of the world then that will be – in Thailand! Similar to the China, Thailand also offers the lot of better cuisines & the host of the other things that a people can enjoy. Several beaches are almost located everywhere.

The tourists & the locals alike may enjoy the diving & Para sailing at the prices relatively cheaper than the neighboring Asian countries surrounding Thailand. The climate in Thailand does not change at faster rate hence it is very ideal place for the tourist to stay and travel here.

During the summer months, from March to June, most of the people either go to the beach or wants to go to the temple-tripping. While it is ok in wearing the sleeveless & shorts in the other countries on the hot summers, in the Thailand, this is generally considered to be inappropriate especially for the women. It is ok in using the sandals throughout as this requires for the both tourists and locals in removing them whenever they visits the temples & view them from inside.

Buddhism is the main religion for the Thais. As the people may know that there are the lots of WATS and temples as they could call them are elaborately decorated. There is also such of the things as the spirit house. In the Thailand, every house has the spirit that guards their houses. One of the exceptionally famous shrines is the Era wan Shrine that was previously the finishing site.

In the terms of designs and art, the Thai art is closely resembled to that of the Indians
& their neighboring Asian countries. Its art is usually involving the religion, dancing and music. In the sports the muay Thai, commonly known as the Thai boxing, is the king there. The Thai boxing is mainly the kind of the marital arts that sprung from the Thailand’s ancient warrior.

Thailand also provides their people with the excellent value for the money. With the low labor costs, & one weak currency, the foreigners as well as the locals can also enjoy the available services and products at the most and least affordable costs. The popular tourist’s destinations, such as Ko Samui and Phuket, though would have the slightly higher prices than the other locals. But with the budget of about 800 baht that is made to be around $24 USD, a person may already have the enough money for the three meals, transportation and a dorm.

In the terms of shopping, a skill that a person must know whenever they go to the night markets in the Bangkok is an art of haggling. Its no matter whether it is a Thai silk they are after, or an intricately clothing of woven, or a smallest handicraft which would fit very nicely in their bedroom, they will mostly to be succeed for getting the best prices.

With all the different areas to visit in the Davao (Philippines), on the southern island of Mindanao is not on the typical tourist’s route, which is a dishonor because the area has a lot to present. Davao, the world’s second largest town, is an interesting cultural mixture of Chinese, Moslem, and local ethnic groups, but the town is predominately Christian. Here are four reasons to visit Davao.

1. Temples: The gigantic Long Hua Chinese Buddhist place of worship has eye-catching wooden floors, carved doors & walls. At very small distance you will find Taoist Temple, an incredibly red pagoda that homes holy icons of the “Taoist religion”. The Lon Wa shrine, set in surroundings of candle trees & bamboo with an imposing figure of the Buddha with his life portrayed in wood carving, is home to the Buddha of Thousand Arms. Monks can also read fortunes.

2. Shopping: “Aldevinco” Shopping Center of Davao City conceits itself for having a huge number of stalls and the variety of their offerings. It is the most excellent place for brass products, batik garments, souvenir shirts and ethnic accessories. They claim to have the most viable prices for pearls. Other favorite items consist of fresh and candied orchids, fruits. There are also several conventional malls.

3. Crocodile Park: This Park is residence to the largest crocodile in the country aptly named “Pangil” (jaws). In addition to this huge 19 feet crocodile and other breeding programs, this park has numerous species of crocodile, pythons, wild cats, turtles, monkeys, lizards, and varieties of foreign birds found inside the mini-zoo. An animal encounter show where tourists can get up close to the animals is held at every weekend in the park.

4. Eagle Conservation Center: The center is a refuge for the Philippine eagle and other animal’s resident to the Philippines. The exceptional and rare Philippine eagle is three feet in height and has a wing span of 7 feet. This Center is residence to 30 Philippine Eagles, 17 of which are confined bred. It also homes 4 species of mammals, 2 species of reptiles and 10 other classes of birds. Replicating a tropical rain forest environment, the Center offers visitors a sight into the country’s forest eco system. Although the exhibits are used first and foremost to help teach the Filipino citizens on conservation, the flair is also considered a chief tourist attraction of Davao City.

Nestled amidst a scattering of islands that makes up Indonesia, Bali is a green jewel rich in flora and fauna. With an area of only 5,632 square kilometres, you can drive around the edge of Bali in a day, but the multitude of delights that await within its borders mean you can stay for weeks and never feel bored.

Bali’s unique landscape is made up of a chain of six volcanoes that straddle the island. These volcanoes measure from 1,350 metres up to an astonishing 3,014 and are responsible for creating the oddly intriguing black sands that swathe parts of the islands coastline. The Batur volcano is the most active on the island and has had a number of small eruptions over the years.

The lush forests of Bali are home to a plethora of flora and fauna, though some of the island’s native animals such as leopards, elephants and the Bali tiger can no longer be found, and in the tigers case is extinct. However, there is still plenty to see for the avid nature explorer with various types of monkey, deer and over 300 species of birds to be found on the island, including the extremely rare Bali starling. Bali is also surrounded by warm waters that are home to a whole host of aquatic life. Dolphins, fish, sponges and whale sharks are just a few of the species that inhabit the coasts of Bali making it perfect for divers.

A variety of tropical plants coats the island in rich green and creates welcoming pools of shade to escape the midday sun. Great banyan trees feature in most villages and temples, joined by tamarind trees in the North, clove trees in the highlands and acacia trees and mangroves in the South. A wash of colour covers the ground beneath these great trees, flowers are a big part of Bali and you’ll find them tucked behind ears, through button holes and used to decorate temples, statues and as adornments during traditional dance. The air is sweet in Bali, with the scents of frangipani, jasmine, hibiscus and bougainvillea drifting lazily on gentle sea breezes.

The island’s cultural heritage is visible everywhere, from the stunning temples scattered throughout the island, to the many festivals and ceremonies. Some notable events in the Bali calendar include Pagerwesi in August, which is a day put aside for special meditation to enhance the balance of the world, and the Indonesia Independence Day on the 17th of August. Art and dance play a big part in traditional Balinese festivities, with masks and decorative costumes used to re-tell folklore and are a true visual spectacle.

Bali holidays are perfect for those who want a varied holiday filled with memorable experiences, including lounging on black beaches, exploring lush forest and gazing up at awe-inspiring volcanoes with a handful of other Indonesian island hovering on the horizon.

One of the most key parts of wedding preparations is the honeymoon and that’s how it should be! It is a time that is very special and couples can enjoy each other and the vacation of their dreams. Some couples like to go on cruises, for example, and some like to discover a place which is secluded and private. Amazing Costa Rica has it all.

The wonderful thing about honeymoons: Costa Rica is the place where you can enjoy everything from partying to tranquil hikes in beautiful countryside, visiting spectacular National Parks to see the exquisite animals and flowers, to enjoying a relaxing spa treatment for two.

Some favorite destinations for honeymoons are Manuel Antonio or Playa Tamarindo but really Costa Rica is full of great places. You can enjoy walking along the beach at sunset to dancing salsa at a club. Added to that, the weather is almost always perfect so you can be in the open air almost always. In fact some hotel reception areas are open and outside in the fresh air. Whether it’s having fresh fruit (often from the nearby tree) for breakfast with organic locally grown coffee, to partying all day and night.

You don’t have to travel far – it’s a three to eight hour flight from most U.S. and Canadian cities. They also offer many options to make your honeymoon special. You can stay at an all-inclusive luxury hotel or you can even rent a nice house on the beach, there are so many different choices (from inns, ‘normal hotels’, to cabins) inbetween. Costa Rica has such diverse countryside – for example you could just go to a small beach resort like Domenical where you can just relax on the beach and swim in the ocean or you can go to the lakes and mountains around Arenal which has an active volcano and enjoy mud and spa treatments.

It’s easy to book your honeymoon and I would suggest you get some tips about the country, research it online, where you can actually book it too, or visit your favorite travel agency. You can book on the internet as well or just visit your local travel agency. Also it’s important to always ask for honeymoons – Costa Rica specials to get good rates or packages.

This really is the perfect place for honeymoons, Costa Rica really has everything you could desire. Come and enjoy paradise.

By: Jim Scherrer

The word “iguana“ is the Spanish derivation of the Carib (Amerindian) word, “iwana“; a name given to a family of lizards that are found throughout the Americas.

Iguanas are one of the five generally recognized infraorders of the lacertilian suborder of reptiles which includes all lizards. The Iguanidae family is only one of about 17 families of the lacertilian suborder; it includes the subfamilies of iguana iguanas (green) and spiny-tailed (black) iguanas which are abundant in the Puerto Vallarta, Mexico area. This entire order of reptiles has been traced back to Tianyusaurus who roamed the Earth during the Late Cretaceous Period, 65-100 million years ago.

Iguanas have been used as a food source in Central and South America for the past 7,000 years and are still used as a source of meat; often referred to as gallina de palo, “bamboo chicken” or “chicken of the tree,” because they are said to taste like chicken. Leather from the iguana hide has also been a prized material for centuries.

Although green iguanas are in peril, they are not considered an endangered species; they are considered to be a threatened species and today they are used mainly as pets with 800,000 imported to the U.S. in 1995 alone. Even though hunting, trapping, or killing iguanas is illegal throughout Mexico, they are nevertheless still sought after as pets. Aside from humans, iguanas have few natural predators; however hawks and owls will attack the smaller ones. Since iguanas are preyed upon by hawks, their fear of hawks is exploited by blowing a hawk’s whistle which makes the iguana freeze and become easier to capture in the wild. Iguanas have claws and powerful tails to fight off most all other land based predators and if caught, they have the ability to shed off a portion of their tail which will later grow back.

Iguanas are commonplace around the Puerto Vallarta area living mainly in trees but also often seen bathing in the sun while on the ground or on large rocks. The tropical climate and lush foliage in PV provide the ideal environment for these ancient reptiles (as well as for us ancient retirees!); a never ending year-round supply of food with an abundance of leaves, fruit, and flowers such as hibiscus and bougainvilleas. As we have witnessed at one of the eight local golf courses, they are pretty fast runners and excellent swimmers!

In Puerto Vallarta, iguanas are often used as company logos, in names of establishments such as restaurants, nightclubs, and cantinas, house names, fiesta names, etc., even in the name of a prestigious neighborhood: Isla Iguana, located in the Marina area. They are often the subject of large sand sculptures on the beach in front of the downtown malecon, molded into pottery items, incorporated into all types of paintings, and included in various other forms of art. Of course, it’s almost impossible to lay on the beach in PV without one of the local boys coming by with his four foot long pet iguana for a photo op! In fact, it was the iguana that put Puerto Vallarta on the international map in 1963 when John Huston filmed “The Night of the Iguana”. Ever since then, the iguana (along with its relative, the gecko) has remained one Vallarta’s most recognized symbols.

Okay, you must be getting impatient wondering what the deal is regarding the three eyed iguanas of Puerto Vallarta; well, it just so happens that all iguanas have three eyes! The third eye, referred to as the parietal or pineal eye, is located on top of the iguana’s head. It is covered by a thin film of skin and therefore does not clearly see color or details but it does detect sun, shade, and movement of overhead predators.

These three eyed reptiles also have a large loose flap of skin under their chin called a dewlap. The dewlap can be moved in or out to show off during mating or warn attackers, but more importantly, it‘s used to regulate the body temperature. It has many blood vessels running through its thin skin and therefore, on a hot day, the iguana can get in the shade and stick out its dewlap to let the body heat escape; on a cold day, it can bathe in the sun and stick out its dewlap to absorb as much of the sun rays as possible. With this handy little built-in heat exchanger, the iguana can enjoy the hot Mexican sun and never sweat!

Better yet, another very interesting characteristic of the iguanas is that, for the sake of procreation, they possess a hemipenis or two penises (fortunate little critters!). However on the downside, they can only use one at a time.

In summarizing, there are so many incredible sights and novel things to photograph in PV, yet one of the favorite subjects for all tourists has to be catching a snapshot of one of those beautiful (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!) creatures while sun bathing or snacking on a delicious bougainvillea. So, the next time you have the good fortune of seeing one of these magnificent reptiles up close, check out the third eye. Meanwhile, if you just want to have a little fun, ask your friends what has three eyes, two penises, and never sweats: the iguanas of enchanting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!

So you have always heard about Hong Kong, but never visited it, or are some what gloomy as to what you can do in Chinese city. What is the food going to be like, the people, the culture, the temperature and most important of all whatever will you do there? Well, these instincts are ordinary, but incorrect. You see, I have always just heard about hong kong and its progress in their infrastructure and design, but never had I imagined it to be my favorite town in the world. I’m not Chinese, neither did I have any Chinese friends convincing me to go. I knew that I wanted to go to China to experience their culture, food and to especially discover what makes them so unique and different in the world. So, I prepared a flight to Hong Kong and next the thing I knew, I was in hong kong in the scorching hot summer with 32 degree and 95% humidity. My experience in hong kong was spectacular. Words unfortunately have limits ; pictures can only give you a feeling of how a town is, but when you basically live in town of hong kong the experience is bind blowing. You’ve got to be there experience the harbor View towards hong kong Island, you have to be there to experience the climb to’the peak’ to see the complete view of the beautiful city of hong kong, you’ve got to sit in the ferry to sniff the sweet air of hong kong.

Now before I left to hong kong, just like any travel, some research and planning must be done about the town. For example, what sort of attractions it must offer, how to say a few phrases in Cantonese so you can get round the city and most vital of all, the Do’s and the Don’t’s. I searched google continually, but failed to find a site with great professional photos that described the way of life of hong kong and some of the things I should and shouldn’t do in hong kong.

All the websites that I found were by corporations throwing their bias pitch towards their product, either a hotel, or a tourism package. After endless looking, I finally found an ideal internet site by a student who went to college of hong kong to study for one month from University of Toronto. I have to say, the way I saw hong kong was exactly like it was displayed in his photos. If your inquisitive about visiting hong kong, then visiting his site is an absolute must and even if your not interested in hong kong, then just checking out the city is still a thrill!

India has a myriad mood with full of extraordinary things, extraordinary happenings and not least extraordinary people. The diversity of India and its unity among all differences make this country a mysterious cauldron. There are numerous things about India, which fascinates people from far distant land but I’m here citing some of the very offbeat examples of India.

Pushkar Camel Fair – Speaking of bazaars, how can one forget Pushkar’s annual camel bazaar? If you fancy buying a camel, you will find different types of camel here and that too at a bargain price while focus is on buying and selling camels, but horses, cows, sheep and even elephants are traded. During Pushkar Camel Fair, around 30,000 cattle are bought and sold! It is a huge tourist attraction when the quaint town of this part of Rajasthan become a great attraction for travellers. Therefore, to add the attraction, there’s plenty of camel racing and other activities. Along with the fun and games and trading of animals, kiosks selling a wide range of bangles, embroidered outfits and brassware goods are available. The bazaar is a combination of colour, laughter and boundless energy topped with a healthy dose of religion. Acrobats, jugglers, snake charmers, mystics and fire eaters add a touch of the exotic to the scene.

Yoga – Yoga means union between own soul with cosmic truth. Though people are now relate it with health issue but the locus point is always spirituality. India is the birthplace of this eternal science and certainly it is one of the greatest wonders of world. Now days the entire world is hooked to yoga, including Hollywood celebrities like Madonna. Why did we take so long to wake up to the fact that yoga is a wonder that originated in India?

Himalayas – The crowning glory of this range is Mount Everest, the tallest peak in the world. What is mesmerising about these mountains is their sheer natural beauty. We remember having watched the Kanchenjunga peak from Tiger Hill, in Darjeeling. It was early morning and when we set out, all of us were uncertain whether we would catch a glimpse of the Himalayan ranges, especially the Kanchenjunga. As the sky was cloudy everyone felt that the peak would not be visible. All of a sudden, the clouds lifted and the sun shone in all its glory amidst the magical Himalayas. And in the first rays of light, we saw the Kanchenjunga in all its brilliance. At the moment, we realised that this divine beauty was definitely a wonder of nature.

Indian Bazaar – I also find the concept of the Indian bazaar a wonder in itself. Walking through the narrow winding streets and absorbing the sights and sounds of a bustling market are, in themselves, novel experiences. Malls can never replicate the charm of the Indian bazaar. If you are going to a crowded market, put aside any notions of peace and quiet and jump into the thick of things. That’s only way you will enjoy it. There is a method in the madness and that’s what makes it so appealing.

Ayers rock is one of the seven wonders of the natural world, having been slowly sculpted over the last 55 million years. Ayers rock is 986ft high and is made entirely from sandstone, but the visible rock is in fact just a small part of a rock that sinks almost 2500ft into the ground.

The name Ayers Rock is in fact a name from the earlier part of this century, with its original and present name officially being Uluru. However, the name Ayers Rock is likely to stick around for a very long time. The rock itself is located in central Australia, and is around 280 miles by road from the nearest large town, Alice Springs.

Ayers rock is a national icon of Australia, if perhaps second to the Kangaroo. However, it is a world famous landmark and has obtained a UNESCO world heritage site status. Car hire in Ayers rock is very worthwhile, as there are many special viewing areas accessible by road which allow easy access to the many caves, springs and ancient paintings. Ayers rock car hire viewing areas are also carefully positioned to give you the best views, and if you stay for sunrise or sunset you’ll notice how the colours magically change with the different colour lights hitting it.

If you do decide on car hire in Ayers rock make sure you are suitably equipped. UV levels are extremely high most of the time, and temperatures have been known to hit 45°C in the peak of the summer, and dip as low as -5 °C on the harshest winter nights.

Car hire in Ayers Rock is recommended, and the best place to organise your Ayers rock car hire is using a price comparison website in advance.

On a recent trip to St. Petersburg I was amazed at how truly beautiful the city is and how very much there is to do and see there.

The city its self has a great skyline with dramatic new buildings rising up from it and the old standards like the St. Petersburg Pier, which is an eye catching inverted pyramid. I say it’s an old standard because the Pier has been a fixture of the downtown area, in its current form since 1973 and in some form since 1889. Local festivals are still held there and for a long time community were dances too. You can fish, shop, dine there’s even a small patch of beach to have fun on and an aquarium but the best part is; it’s in the middle of downtown so it’s fun and convenient.

Tampa Bay itself is also an integral part of life in St. Petersburg, Florida. Not only is it a beautiful body of water but it to impacts life in St. Petersburg on a daily basis. Fishing in the bay adds to the local economy and you have to cross the Bay at some point if you want to get around in St. Petersburg but there is also a lot of fun to be had on the Bay. Sail boaters in particular like it because it is very big yet protected which makes it a great place for the many regattas and races that are held there annually.

Also, spanning the Bay is one of the modern wonders in America, if not the world – The Sunshine Skyway Bridge. As we were going over the bridge I was impressed by its size, at over five miles long it is the longest cable-stayed main span suspension bridge in America. Any day of the week there are people all over the old bridge, right beside the new one, fishing or taking pictures or simply standing staring over the side at whatever is passing by be it a boat, pod of dolphin or a sting ray. It’s too inviting not to stop and have a look around which is exactly what we did. We spent an hour just watching people, taking pictures and looking for sealife.

If you’re a sports fan St. Petersburg is a great place too. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team have had there home stadium, Tropicana Field, in St. Petersburg since 1998. Tropicana Field has also served as the host stadium for the St. Petersburg Bowl, an NCAA-sanctioned college football bowl game since December 2008. The St. Pete Times Forum is a sports and entertainment center that hosts over 150 events including concerts, ice shows and the circus. The Forum is also the home to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Storm, an Arena Football League. It hosts numerous NCAA events such as the Men’s Basketball Quarterfinals and the Women’s Final Four. In 2012 the Forum is slated to host the Frozen Four, which is the NCAA Men’s Division I Hockey Finals.

For all you ‘cultural folk’ there are things like the Salvador Dali Museum. The Dali Museum has over 200,000 visitors annually from around the world maybe because houses the largest collection of Dalí’s work in the world. Along with the ever changing exhibits they have two film series, lectures and concerts. The Dali Museum maintains a strong partnership with the community of St. Petersburg as well as museums and educational institutions around the world. The museum continues to preserve and protect its collective works, while making them open and accessible for the enjoyment and education of all people, enhancing the public’s appreciation of Salvador Dali and his many great works. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon and maybe even introduce the kids to a great artist. Speaking of the kids St. Petersburg has a great children’s museum called Great Explorations, as well as a Museum of Fine Arts, a History Museum, and a Holocaust Museum. Nearby Fort Desoto is also a great place for the kids to take a look back in time and spend a day. For some leisure time there are many beaches around and islands nearby to explore.

As I said before there is a lot to do and see in St. Petersburg, I was delighted and amazed. So as you’re planning your trip be sure to do your homework and plot enough time to thoroughly enjoy the area.

Deep within the Puget Sound, between Seattle and Vancouver, right next to Victoria, lays a rural archipelago known as the San Juan Islands. Technically associated with Washington State, these islands actually straddle the Washington-British Columbia border, and include several hundred islands, reefs, and rocks. Due to the massive amount of rainfall dumped onto the area by the “rainshadow” of the Olympia Mountains, the San Juan Islands enjoy one of the most interesting ecosystems on the planet. In an area where you can see a wide variety of animals, you can also enjoy plants that are normally only seen in the rainforest, and plants that are native to the desert growing side by side.

Every summer, in addition to tourists looking the islands, you will also find another visitor. From May through October, three pods of Orca whales, also known as killer whales, roam about the Haro Strait, feasting on the migrating salmon. It is in this area that visitors have the opportunity to experience seeing these amazing creatures close up. Kayaking tours offered by a number of companies are a great way to enjoy the serenity of nature, without disrupting it. Sitting low to the water in a kayak, you tend to feel at one with the water, and realize just how small you really are in comparison to these astounding mammals. Orca whales are extremely intelligent; never has a human been attacked by an unprovoked whale in the wild. Two of the most intense kayaking experiences are the pre-dawn paddle to watch the sunrise, and the special night paddle to view the bioluminescence. In addition to the whales there are thousands of tide pools filled with interesting creatures, tons of bald eagle nests, and thousands of harbor seals.

On land, San Juan Island has plenty that you can explore. For those who wish to see the whales, but aren’t too sure about the kayaking, San Juan is home to the only National Park dedicated to whale watching. From shore you can see Orca and Minke whales, Dall’s porpoise, harbor seals, and bald eagles. This is a great place for the whole family to explore and enjoy a picnic lunch; just make sure to bring a pair of binoculars! The Whale Museum in downtown Friday Harbor helps visitors to appreciate these magnificent creatures. The island is best explored on bicycles, which can be rented at a number of locations. Whether you do it on foot, on bike, or in a kayak, the San Juan Islands are a thing of beauty to be enjoyed to the full.
