These are not good times for the economy. The price of everything – especially gas – seems to be rising every single day and salaries aren’t going anywhere. In fact, there are jobs being lost every day. Yet families need to take vacations. Here are 5 tips for planning a cheap summer vacation.

1. Eat in

The cost of the vacation isn’t simply doing things, seeing things, and staying overnight places. Often the majority of the money you spend is spent at restaurants. So you can dramatically cut your costs by making your own food. It can be as simple as buying a loaf of bread along with peanut butter and jelly and a bag of chips. Every meal you make yourself will save you a lot of money.

2. Go to built-in fun

Another great tip for planning a summer vacation spots is to go to places where you don’t have to pay to have fun. Go to the mountains where you can hike, camp, and swim. Go to the ocean where you can spend your days on the beach and swimming. This will save you lots of money.

3. Explore close to home

With the price of gas, this is a really great tip. Before you drive or fly across the country, explore the great things that are closer to home. If you do a little research on the Internet you’ll be surprised by the great things you find. Try to keep your travel to under 250 miles if at all possible.

4. Go at non-peak

Everything is more expensive at peak times. So places that are built for tourists will jack their prices up when they know they’ll be packed with guests. But that doesn’t mean the summer vacation destinations aren’t fun at non-peak times. In fact, they can be even more fun. So try to plan your trip when it’s cheapest.

5. Look into rentals

Instead of spending a lot of money to stay at a hotel or motel look into renting a place for a week. You may be able to find a nice little cabin. Or you could rent a huge house and take a vacation with friends and family members. You will save a lot of money in the long run.

The family that plays together stays together. Therefore, it’s important to take a family vacation. However, it can be very expensive. 5 tips for planning a cheap family vacation are to eat in, go to built-in fun, explore close to home, go at non-peak, and look into rentals.

la Jolla California Vacation, is a seaside resort community of around 25,000. Spanish for “the jewel”, it’s often times referred to as “jewel by the sea”. La Jolla borders the Pacific Ocean to the south and extends north to Torrey Pines State Reserve and Del Mar,
California.

Along the way, La Jolla encompasses neighborhoods like Bird Rock, Windansea, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Farms, Torrey Pines, Mount Soledad, and even La Jolla Village.

Located near the upscale community of La Jolla, the Marine Street Beach is a small cluster of high end clothiers, hotels, shops, and galleries. The beach is also legendary to body surfers and body boarders due to it’s thunderous waves which always seem to crash the shoreline at the right time.

Residents of La Jolla and business owners refer to the “village” or “town” of La Jolla. The official postal address for the zip code 92037 is actually la Jolla California Vacation, and not San Diego as it is for most communities within the City of San Diego. Sometimes, tourists get confused and believe that La Jolla is actually a seperate city, which it isn’t.

La Jolla is a community of the City of San Diego. La Jolla has several community groups that work to unify the voice of the area, including several non profit organizations.

With it’s palm lined streets, large homes, and tropical climate and atmosphere, La Jolla is like a southern European village with it’s own touch of Beverly Hills along the retail shops on Prospect
Street. A lot of the natural charm from La Jolla stems from the presence of the ocean and Mount Soledad.

Several narrow curvy roads follow the contours of Soledad with hundreds of nice homes overlooking the ocean, nestled gently on the slopes. There are several sandy beaches here as well, including the Windansea Beach, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Beach,
and La Jolla Shores.

La Jolla also has the Torrey Pines Golf Course, which was made famous by the PGA Tour Buick Invitational held there each February. Down the steep cliffs frm the golf course is the famous
Black’s Beach.

The downtown area of la Jolla California Vacation is well known for it’s jewelry stores, upmarket restaurants, and even hotels. Prospect Street and Girad Avenue also offer several famous boutiques. Well known
for its architectural and historical presence is the La Valencia Hotel, which used to welcome movie stars on retreat from Hollywood.

Recently, harbor seals have taken over the Children’s Beach, which is a quiet man made cove near the downtown area. The seals are protected under federal law, so removing them is nearly impossible. Now, the beach is open, as the rope is down.
Swimming here is allowed, although it’s not recommended.

One of the big complaints about skiing vacations is the cost to participate in the sport. Accommodations are normally one of the greatest expenses and one that can be controlled. Here are three tips that you can put to use this winter to reduce the cost of bedding down for the night.

Many skiers do not spend a lot of time at the place where they are staying during a skiing vacation. So, why book expensive accommodations? A better approach is to phone ahead and book a Bed and Breakfast. Most ski destinations these days have local B&Bs. They are relatively cheap and you usually get a good breakfast, which means you also save time by not having to drive to another location in the morning.

So, if you don’t mind sharing a bunk bed with a friend and washroom facilities with the rest of the skiers on the floor, then a B&B is definitely the way to go. You will save a lot of your hard-earned dollars, which means you can ski more often during the season.

An alternative to a B&B is to rent a house close to the ski resort for the weekend. A lot of locals in the towns and villages near the resorts rent homes to skiers. They could be second homes that they have invested in or cottages that they only use in the summer. These places are usually a bargain especially if you avoid holidays like Christmas and New Years.

You need to get a group of up to six friends together to make it worthwhile. Another benefit is that you can cook your own breakfast and dinner at the house, as well as prepare a lunch that you can bring with you to the ski hill. This means you can make your skiing vacations dollars stretch even further.

If you want something a little more upscale than a B&B, or you don’t want to be tasked with getting a group of skiers together, there is another option. You can stay at an inn, hotel, or chalet further way from the ski resort and commute each morning. Accommodations at or near ski resorts can be expensive, but the rates for rooms drop appreciably the further away you get from the ski hill. How do you find such places?

One of the best ways is to go online and search for accommodations in the region where you will be skiing. You can locate places to stay within a certain radius of the ski resort, say 20 miles. Check the room rates for a few inns or hotels at that distance, and then narrow or widen the radius, as appropriate, until you find a place that suits your budget and has the amenities you want. This can make your trip very economical when compared to staying at an inn or hotel near the ski hill.

The words “Schools Out For Summer” strike joy into the hearts of children and often a sigh of relief for parents who are just as eager to take a break from homework as their progeny. However taking a complete break from the books for the entire summer can be problematic.

Studies have shown that children forget between 1 and 3 months of school during the vacation spots. While reading is the least effected, the most impacted subjects are spelling and math. Obviously it is important for children to have time to play and relax — to just enjoy being kids during the summer. Children should not be pushed into a high-pressure study schedule over summer vacation. But parents can take steps to slow down that loss of knowledge and erosion of skills.

First and foremost, keep children reading over the vacation spots but try to work in some nonfiction as well as fiction onto the reading list. Take a lesson from many experienced teachers and pick a few spelling words from the books children are reading. Perhaps tie test results into some special summer reward and you will have eagerly awaited spelling bees.

Writing is one skill that often erodes during vacation spots, but you can give children a writing journal and a weekly goal. They can write about whatever you think will interest your child. They can report on their baseball games, make up elaborate games, or simply report on the books they are reading. There are lots of great writing prompts out there for kids if you run dry of ideas. It does not matter so much what your child writes so long as they spend time writing so they can work on handwriting skills as well as keep in the groove of putting words on paper. One easy writing prompt is to have the child describe people, places, objects, pets and other animals, insects, and games. Lists are another easy writing prompt — favorite things, worst things, etc. Then on another day you can use those descriptions and lists to generate another writing prompt.

Math skills might seem the hardest thing to work on during summer but in fact these can be the easiest. Math does not have to come out of a book and you can easily work a lot of math lessons into those long car rides or plane trips as you go on a family vacation. Try counting car headlights (counting by 2s) as you drive or fingers in a restaurant or plane (counting by 5s). Find various shapes around the house and then trace them to create yet more complex forms. Get the kids involved in cooking and learning about measurements. Give the kids a ruler and notebook and tell them to measure various objects around the house. Empty out your pocket change and have the kids sort it and create word problems with the coins.

There are lots of activities you can do at home without the expense of special tools, workbooks or programs that will actively engage your child in learning and help keep their school skills sharp. They will not even notice they are learning because they will enjoy these projects so much.

Few things create the level of bonding and healing for a family as a Grand Canyon hike down to the Colorado River and back out. There are three reasons why it is so powerful, and it’s OK if you don’t have the physical fitness to do it, or if you have small kids – I have some solutions for you!

Grand canyon treks

First, the reasons why a hiking trip into the Grand Canyon is so beneficial for families. The number one reason is that the Grand Canyon is an incredibly special place: a canyon eroded by hundreds of millions of years of running water and blowing wind. It’s literally a 4000 foot deep chasm sliced down the middle of a huge plateau with a wild and incredibly scenic river thundering through the bottom of it. Desert flowers, wildlife, waterfalls, springs, rapids, and views that astound even the most cynical of people saturate a Canyon experience completely. It’s very difficult to not look out at the Canyon from the rim after spending 3 or 4 days at the river and not feel total gratitude for being alive in that moment. And that gratitude is the life blood of family relationships.

Grand canyon trekking

Second, small groups of people spending time in the wilderness is the basic context that human beings evolved for the vast majority of the past 70,000 years. It feels correct, and it creates the space for emotions and more difficult feelings to be worked with openly. In other words, it opens up communication channels.

Third, a Grand Canyon trek is an achievement. Families, like any other teams, are happier when they are winning and are less happy when they are not winning. A hike into the Canyon is an achievement for the family. It isn’t easy, it is challenging, and that’s one of the reasons it’s so effective.

Grand canyon hiking adventures

If you aren’t physically fit enough to do a Grand Canyon hike, then I’ve got some solutions. First, you may be fit enough to hike without a pack, and if you are, then there are mule services to carry your gear down and back up, so you don’t have to do it. The mules are also a great solution for families with young children. Another solution is to book the trip several months out and start training – if you aren’t in shape for it, then get into shape and make it a mechanism for being healthier. If neither of those solutions will work, then another option is to do a Grand Canyon rafting tour with day hikes from the bottom.

Malaysia Vacations for Everyone

I am a Malaysian and I invite you to make Malaysia your destination of choice for your next vacation. If you want to relax by the beach, trek the jungle, shoot the rapids, climb mountains, parasail, windsurf, scuba dive, snorkel or do any other such things, think Malaysia. If you like to enjoy the buzz of the city, shop at classy malls, find bargains, be entertained, have fun with your kids or experience any other such things, think Malaysia. If you wish to vacation where East meets West, think Malaysia. Malaysia has it all. Skycrapers such as the Petronas Twin Towers, state-of-the-art facilities, world class accommodation, international and local entertainment, global and regional brands are all found in Malaysia. At the same time, lush rainforests among the oldest in the world, exotic plants and intriguing animals, majestic mountain ranges and iridescent and pristine seas that hug miles of unspoiled beaches all find their home in Malaysia.

Is it expensive? Not at all! A vacation in Malaysia is very affordable compared to many other countries in the same region. $1 is approximately RM3.30 and one can vacation in Malaysia for literally a few dollars a day. Backpacker lodges and motels are aplenty all offering the thrifty traveler very reasonable accommodation at affordable prices. Other countries in the region may be cheaper but offer so much less in terms of places of interest, things to do, entertainment spots and recreational facilities.

If you are seeking a quality vacation with a difference, I will share with you what is in store for you in Malaysia.

If you are the adventurous type, try climbing to the peak of Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, East Malaysia. At 4096 m (about 13, 350 ft) high, it stands head and shoulders above all other peaks in the Crocker Range. It is the highest mountain in South-East Asia. But the unique thing is that its summit is just below the snow-belt and that means anyone even without specialist training or equipment can climb to its peak as long as you are fit enough.

Did you know that the very first series of ‘Survivor’ was shot entirely at Pulau Tiga, a tiny island part of Sabah? Then there are the Mulu Caves in Sarawak, the largest cave chamber in the world. Walking into its interior is an experience like no other. In Malaysia, you can find the largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia. Catch a glimpse of the Proboscis monkey, the species of monkey with the largest and most prominent nose of all or scuba dive into some of nature’s most beautiful coral-laden waters swarming with colorful sea creatures you have never seen in Redang, Perhentian or Sipadan Islands. Try eating the durian, a thorny fruit with a distinct taste and smell. The durian is called the King of Fruits by the locals.

If you are the city-loving type, enjoy the sights and sounds of metropolitan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city. Mega shopping malls that sell international brands of goods and services, street bazaars that promote local products and souvenirs and roadside vendors that sell trinkets are all found here. Be entertained at Malaysia’s world-class entertainment spots such as Genting the City of Entertainment. Genting Highlands also houses Malaysia’s premier casino where you can try your hand at all sorts of games of chance.

For the culturally inclined, you can catch fascinating cultural dances, traditional occupations such as basket weaving, kite flying, top spinning competitions, batik (a local style of cloth and design) printing, traditional music and plenty more. Buy locally made handicraft of all kinds as a remembrance of your visit. Muzium Negara is the national museum of Malaysia.

If you want to learn about the history of Malaysia, there is no better place to visit than Malacca. The state of Malacca is where the earliest settlers to Malaysia first arrived. In Malacca you can still see remnants of previous colonial powers that ruled Malaysia centuries ago. The remains of the famous fort A Formosa built by the Portugese in the 16th Century still stands, as do the Stadhuys, unique brick-red buildings built by the Dutch about a hundred years later.

All these wonderful experiences await you in Malaysia. Whatever you would like to experience or enjoy, come to Malaysia and discover it for yourself.

Many people would go on a vacation one time every year. This is when people can relax and recover from the stress present in their normal daily life.

When you plan a vacation, some of the factors to consider are: location, things to do, dining, and shopping. Most people research the area carefully before making a decision.

Where you are going to stay is perhaps the most important part of the whole decision making process. More and more, people are researching and purchasing timeshare rentals.

There are many benefits to timeshare rentals, the biggest being that you will never have to worry about getting a hotel room when you take your vacation. There are many timeshares choices available, with a variety of facilities and upgrades available,

When buying a timeshare rental, the season in which you’ll be occupying it is a major consideration. To avoid crowds you should consider choosing a timeshare during off seasons. Be aware of the weather at the time of year you are considering. Your preference will depend on your personality, if you love skiing you will most likely want to select a timeshare in the mountains during the winter season, however if you love sunny beaches you may want to find an exotic tropical beachfront location.

You can find selling timeshares available across the globe. If it’s an exotic trip you’re after, you can take one with the knowledge that when you get there you will have a rental ready. The money saved with a timeshare rental can be used for shopping and entertainment.

Most timeshare rentals offer all the benefits and comforts of home, if not more. They have fully stocked kitchens, dining room, however one thing that you may not have at home is a Jacuzzi or hot tub.

For some vacationers, cooking is not an option. For those people, renting a timeshare at a resort hotel might be the best option. Most people will find that they are affordable, and will appreciate that they have fabulous restaurants with a wide selection of delicious meals.

Thoroughly researching your options is something that is very important to do. Even though the ameneties offered in timeshares are usually the same, what will differ is what do you get and how are they priced. If you are planning a vacation during the tourist season, the prices will most likely be higher than purchasing in the off season.

No Disneyland Vacation is complete without a Disneyland tour – especially if it is your first trip to Disneyland. There are currently four different tours to select from, and Disneyland park admission is required for all tours. It is highly advised that you make a reservation for the tours that you want to go on.

Disneyland’s Discover the Magic Tour may be the most popular of the four. This tour will have you and your family working with Disneyland characters to find clues and hunt for treasure. You can literally live out a Disneyland fantasy with your family and loveable characters, outsmarting the Disney bad guys! This tour includes lunch and an exclusive gift that can only be obtained on this tour.

The Discover the Magic Tour lasts for about three hours. There is a two ticket minimum, and the cost is approx $49 each of the first two tickets, with additional tickets costing about $39. The tour is appropriate for the 5 – 9 year old age group, and adults. The tour is not really suitable for kids under the age of five, or for kids who need strollers.

The VIP Tour lasts for about four hours, and costs about $75 per hour for a party of up to ten people. You must book this tour well in advance, or there will be an additional twenty dollar fee. The tour is not recommended for kids, but is designed more for people who have a true love and interest in Disney and Disneyland history.

The Welcome to Disneyland Tour is absolutely perfect for first timers. There are many benefits to this tour, including priority seating at one of the stage shows, tips and suggestions for getting the most out of your Disneyland vacation, a brief history of the park, priority seating at one of the many restaurants, instruction in using FastPass, two bonus FastPass tickets, and much more. This tour lasts about two and a half hours, and costs around $25 per person.

A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps focuses on the vision of Walt Whitman, and is not really suitable for small kids. Filled with history and trivia about the park, this tour lasts for more than three hours, and costs around $49 per person. The main feature of this tour is your peek at the exclusive Club 33.

Again, you should definitely consider making one of these tours part of your Disneyland experience – especially if this will be your first trip to Disneyland.
You may see things and learn things that you would not see or learn without the benefit of the tour!

And when you get back home why not keep the fun going by learning how to face paint. Your kids will soom be amazed at you skill at creating great face painting designs.
Learn more
Face paintings
Face painting instructions
bat face painting design

I Love The Coastal Communities Near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Someday we’ll be spending months at a time at one of the small communities near the coast with

easy access to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I’m hoping we’ll find something within about 1 hour

driving time for easy day trips back and forth. We don’t want to miss our annual Christmas dinner

with our friends at the Cafe Roma in Puerto Vallarta. That’s what Bucerias retirement is all about.

We’ve been up and down the coast the past few years. We keep seeing interesting places..Boca de

Tomatlan, Mismaloya,Punta Mita, Bucerias, Rincon Guayabitos…We’ve missed a few.

I saw a story recently, after returning from our last trip of course, about Sayulita to the north

of Puerto Vallarta about an hour away. Oh, there’s that magical hour limit of mine. On the list

to check out next trip. We’ve been close by several times, but never right at Sayulita. This is

apparently a wonderful funky little community that caters to surfers as well as all kinds of

regular visitors of course.

Mexican developers have a great opportunity, I think in building smaller retirement

accomodations, all along the coast, near Puerto Vallarta to cater to people like ourselves who

want affordable accomodation.

Creating small pod-like clusters of homes or buildings within these communities will allow

couples and families to retire in close proximity and socialize and help each but still feel

fully independent. I’m sure I got that pod term from the whale watching that’s available off the

coast in Mexico)

The Baby Boomers will flood this marketplace over the next 10 years. I’d just like to get in

ahead of the rest of them.

“Mexico beach vacations” is the most searched for combination of words in search engines related to

Mexico. The pace of life, the sun and the cerveza or margaritas are a great

combination for a short or long term vacation or winter stay.

So whether it’s for a longer term winter visit or just a great vacation, I’ll pass on my planning

tip. The high season is now over and owners would like some cash flow.

Decouple your air fare from your accomodations and go a la carte this time. Book now for next

year, pay a deposit and get the best deal on accomodations. Now you both have something to look

forward to. It’s works for us. Enjoy a Bucerias again..and again.

Planning a family vacation can be expensive. Once you add up the cost of lodging and airfare, there is barely enough money left over to enjoy the vacation. All-inclusive resorts offer an alternative for families that comes with a cheaper price tag.

All-inclusive resorts are prevalent in Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. These are great places for families with small children and teenagers. Couples can find resorts that cater to adults only so you can enjoy a romantic vacation without children underfoot.

All-inclusive Mexican resorts have many amenities that appeal to family travel. The biggest expense on just about any vacation is the cost of meals. Tourists spend hundreds of dollars a day on food. Here, you can relax. Since the food is included, children can eat and snack at all times of the day and evening for no extra cost. And, the food is good. This includes drinks in the restaurants and the swim up bar which kids seem to love.

These resorts are built on beachfront property. Guests can enjoy the sun’s rays and activities in the surf. Most resorts offer activities like windsurfing, catamarans, kayaks, and the like as a part of the resort fee. Other activities such as snorkeling and motorized watersports are also often offered with additional per use fees.

Kids can have their time, too. Kids aged four to twelve can take part in the club activities. Coordinators work with kids to provide fun supervised things for them to do without their parents. Parents can retrieve their kids from the kid’s center when they are ready for meals or a bit of family time.

Child friendly Mexican resorts include: Beaches, SuperClub Breezes, Sunscape Resorts and Spas, and Palace Resorts. As all-inclusive facilities, they offer many amenities for one low price. Meals and drinks are included in the price that you pay to stay at the resort. Non-motorized water activities are also included as well as live entertainment at their nighttime hot spots.

Children, as define by the resort, get to stay free with an adult at several places. The resorts allow two adults and three children to stay in one room for the same low all-inclusive price. That is definitely a deal. Resorts also boast several pools, lazy rivers, and water parks. Some excursions may be included as a part of the resort cost, but most will incur some sort of fee.

Look for an all-inclusive resort that fits your needs. Teenagers are hard to please but there are resorts that cater to their needs. Young children are quite active and resorts geared towards families are a great choice. Adults like time alone once in a while. Exclusively adult resorts give them the opportunity to find romance and fun in a tropical location.

Palace Resorts has nine all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. Each because they are owned by the same enterprise, you can stay at one but enjoy the amenities at all nine if your travels take you that far. Check with Palace resorts to find out when this promotion is in effect.

Vallarta Palace Resort and Beach Palace Resort are two choices for families. They have a Kid’s Club that offers activities for different age groups to keep kids occupied so their parents can have some adult time. Both resorts have beautiful beaches with activities like volleyball games, golf, and on-site fitness centers. Prices start around $300 per person for a three-night stay. When children qualify to stay free, you save even more money.

They also have two adult-only resorts: Sun Palace and Aventura Spa Palace Resorts. Adults can enjoy the beach, pools, and spa time to reconnect with each other. Three-night stays start at $400 per person to enjoy an all-inclusive stay in Cancun.

For the price, this is one of the best ways for couples and families to see the Mexican country and spend time together. Families can take advantage of resort guided tours throughout the area for sightseeing and shopping. Choose an all-inclusive resort in the city you most want to visit.

When it comes to taking care and being good to ourselves, we may come to realize that one of the best ways where we could demonstrate that is through having a health insurance that would back us up in times of need. But if we are talking about having a health insurance, issues like the expenses are being raised right away that most of the time, shadows what the benefits of having one is really like and what peace of mind it could bring to you and your family even when traveling.

And right now, one of the biggest trends that we see on travelers is that they are now purchasing plans that would give them cheap travel insurance when they visit different locations to make sure that they not just have peace of mind. So for those people who still are not convinced that traveling with a cheap travel insurance is probably the wisest thing that you could do when you go out of the country, here are some of the benefits that you could derive from having one.

Being Prepared At All Times

When you think of health care, you would really not know when you will need it and even if you and your family are traveling abroad, it is best that you will find a cheap travel insurance that would cover your medical expenses if one of your travel companions got sick that needs medical assistance. Not only this is the benefit of having cheap travel insurance, it could also come in handy when you have to cancel your trip due to illnesses and other circumstances that could not be avoided. Because most often than not, travel companies would force you to pay for a cancellation fee or other fees that would be applicable if you intend to move your vacation to another date.

Aside from that, having cheap travel insurance would also cover the financial costs in some cases like, financial default of the airline, cruise line or even tour operator. Also, it would be great when natural disasters or employee strikes impede the travel services that you have purchased, when you are trapped in a circumstance that would require you to travel back to your country because of your involvement in an accident and all other unfortunate events that may ruin your vacation. The bottom line is, always travel with a cheap travel insurance not just for your own peace of mind and health care, but it is the wisest thing that you could do to when leaving the country and rewarding yourself.
